General Information:  

Although it’s origins are debated, human use of hibiscus goes back to Southeast China. It eventually made it’s way to Europe in the 1700’s.  The species brought back was Hibiscus rosa-sinensis and has been grown by European botanical gardens ever since.   Our hibiscus is Hibiscus sabdariffa and is native to West Africa.
